Soaking Saturday

Wow - what a load of crappy weather we're having. Rain, rain, go away! It's making everyone in the house testy. Even the cats. I've snapped at Kayakboy numerous times, the babe is just out of sorts, and the fuzzy little wackos are underfoot all the time.

KB has taken C and is hoping that she will settle down for a nap. I'm hiding in the bedroom so that they can both relax.

Yesterday was a good day. My parents came and drove us out to LI for a shopping trip. I picked up my bridesmaid dress for J's wedding. It looks lovely! But I had a minor disagreement with the seamstress. For one, she seems to be stuck on the idea that we ought to wear matching shoes. With the dress..navy shoes. Nearly everyone else I've talked to says that no, that isn't necessary. So we got beautiful silver strappy sandals. I can wear them again, and I know I'd never wear navy - and dyable shoes are never comfortable. So there.

Then mom and I went to Target and I bought the next size of clothing for C. So many cute things.

And, I've been tagged by my good buddy Frogma. I'm in a strange mood today and I've got some funny books on the bedside table, so let's see what the meme brings:

The Open Book Meme:

These are the instructions:

1. Pick up the nearest book.
2. Open it at page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence/ phrase.
4. Blog the next four sentences/ phrases together with these instructions.
5. Don't you dare dig your shelves for that very special or intellectual book.
6. Pass it forward to six friends

"...it's what he wanted, it was his will filling me up and giving me strength to hold him down, because archangels can't lose such fights, it wouldn't be right, it's only devils who get beaten in such circs...."

The Satanic Verses
Salman Rushdie

I swear to you, I did NOT go looking for the most intellectual book around. My book group is reading this right now. Or more accurately, we're supposed to be reading it, I'm using it instead of sleeping pills. Because boy-oh-boy is it dense.

So, six people, let me think:

Whether they check this blog often enough to do this - I'm curious to see if anyone plays along!

Bye!

Wow, that was FAST!

Now I'm trying to remember whether I ever actually finished The Satanic Verses myself. I know I had it in my possession at one time. I know that I don't anymore, which is a guaranteed sign that I wasn't exactly blown away by it.

Lovely weather, innit? A friend from Self-Important Press is singing at Vox Pop tonight. She's a great singer, but cripes, the way it was blowing a minute ago, I'm really wondering whether I want to go outside.

Probably will anyways. If a tree falls on me, I'll just be the first to say "Told you so".

D -

I just saw this! (3/16). I'm totally cracking up because I'm re-reading Satanic Verses myself. I read it when it first came out, eons ago, and I was in high school. Of course, i understood nothing then. Now, I'm seeing it in a totally different light.

Ok, will take the meme and run with it.
