Jackson Heights
Well, here we are. We moved and are starting to settle in to the new digs. Nice, airy and clean. Once we get the boxes moved in, we will have a lovely spacious home.
Kayakboy is committed to keeping things streamlined, so we're setting aside a box of things to discard, either to donate, directly to the trash, or for resale on ebay.
We're also starting to figure out the particulars of the neighborhood. Jackson Heights contains a large Indian, Mexican and Columbian population. There are great restaurants and local markets. A particular favorite is already Trade Fair, which seems to sell just about everything a girl could want in a grocery store, including the largest selection of baby food I've ever seen.
We've visited here a few times, so we knew of a few places already - like the Jackson Diner, which doesn't serve diner food, but Indian, and has a lunch buffet. We've also stopped for snacks at the Delhi Palace takeout counter. (Samosas, pakoras and desserts.) There is a good diner, The Mark Twain, which is a couple of blocks away. We're trying to find a good Chinese place, but nothing yet. It's just a matter of time. Today we walked north a bit and found a Waldbaum's super market, a patissiere, and a few other shops. Dave said the pastry he tried was good. (I was restrained and didn't get anything.)
I also found a hardware store, the park and have been to the Duane Reade several times already.
Life here is pretty damn good.

The park on 77th St has a Farmer's Market in the summer, which is nice.
